GEC launches new Environmental Industrial Division with hiring of former LDEQ Secretary

G.E.C., Inc., a national engineering firm specializing in transportation, environmental, planning, coastal, infrastructure, and industrial development with a client base consisting of public and private-sector organizations across the United States, announced today the hiring of Chuck Carr Brown, Ph.D. as Senior Vice President of its new Environmental Industrial Division. Dr. Brown, a dedicated promoter of comprehensive environmental protection in Louisiana, has more than 35 years of experience and a history of ensuring a clean and healthy environment for present and future generations. He will be responsible for overall growth of the firm’s Environmental Industrial Division, along with developing new business opportunities and creating customized solutions for industrial clients.

Most recently, Dr. Brown served as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ), responsible for leading 715 employees and 6 regional offices with an annual budget of $127 Million. As Secretary, Dr. Brown facilitated the department’s mission of providing service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety, and welfare while considering sound policies regarding employment and economic development with a Vision of being a respected steward of the state’s environment. Research has shown that Dr. Brown is the first African American to serve in this capacity in Louisiana and is only the third African American to serve in a similar position in the United States.

Dr. Brown also served in the following roles prior to his role as Secretary of LDEQ: Special Research Scientist for Exxon Mobil Chemical Company for over 20 years; former Vice President of Environmental Affairs Division for Franklin Industries, LLC; former Vice President of Metro Services Group, LLC; and President and CEO of Brown and Associates, LLC. Dr. Brown received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Southern Mississippi and his Master’s and Doctorate of Philosophy degrees from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge.
