GEC Selected For EBR Pump Station Design

GEC was selected by the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge Engineers Selection Committee on October 27th to design the Multiple Pump Stations, Highway 61 – Plank Road wastewater project. Fee negotiations have recently been completed with the City/Parish’s Program Manager, CH2M-HILL, and our project lump sum fee of $1.202 million is now moving to the Metro Council for final approval.

The GEC Public Works Group will design, within 11 months, eight new sanitary sewer pump stations using submersible pumps to replace existing wastewater pump stations. These stations range in size from 403 to 9,841 gallons per minute (gpm) pumping capacity. Some of the larger pumps will be designed as variable speed pumps. All of these new pump stations will include a new standby generator to provide emergency power in the event of an electrical supply failure. Two of these stations (PS 43 and PS 513) are Program Stations which will require demolishing old buildings and designing new buildings and larger pumps. Five of the stations will be City/Parish standard duplex pump stations, and one station will be a City/Parish standard triplex station. All of these pump stations are being designed and constructed to meet the Sanitary Sewer Overflow program mandated by the ongoing Consent Decree between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of EBR. We will coordinate our design efforts with CH2M-HILL (the City’s Program Manager). The Transportation Engineering and the Electrical Engineering Groups will assist the Public Works Group with our design. Also assisting will be our subconsultants, Volkert, Inc., Gotech, Inc., Crump Wilson Architects, Ardaman & Associates, Inc., Monroe & Corie, Inc. and Clemson Engineering Hydraulics, Inc.
